Valley Forge, Chester County
Valley Forge is located on the west side of Valley Forge National Historical Park where Valley Creek and the Schuylkill River converge. The remainder is in Schuylkill Township, Chester County. The name Valley Forge is often used to refer to anywhere in the general vicinity of the park, and many places actually in King of Prussia, Trooper, Oaks, and other nearby communities will use the name, leading to some ambiguity on the actual location of the modern village.
Valley Forge has quite a history because of it's role in the Revolutionary War. Valley Forge was the military camp where the American Continental Army spent the winter of 1777–78 during the American Revolutionary War. Starvation, disease, malnutrition, and exposure killed over 2,500 American soldiers by the end of February 1778.With winter almost setting in, and with the prospects for campaigning greatly diminishing, General George Washington sought quarters for his men. Washington and his troops had fought what was to be the last major engagement of 1777 at the Battle of White Marsh (or Edge Hill) in early December. He devised to pull his troops from their present encampment in the White Marsh area (now Fort Washington State Park) and move to a more secure location for the coming winter.
The partial re-creation of the historic village from the time of the American Revolution that is located next door, and just within the outskirts of the park draws visiters from all over the country.
Valley Forge is the location of where I76 joins the Pennsylvania Turnpike, although there is no actual entrance unless you go through King of Prussia.
The Valley Forge Casino also draws thousands of visitors with it's hotel, casino, restaurants and entertainment.
